Joseph Weaver

Director & Lead Forester

Joe has been a professional forester and woodland manager since 2009 working for large private estates, small woodland owners, Forestry Commission, Wildlife Trusts and similar organisations. He specialises in low impact, sustainable, broadleaf woodland management. He holds an MSc in Forestry from Bangor University along with a number of land based qualifications including dealing with windblown and technical trees. Joe is also the Director and owner of Comprehensive Woodland Management, a consultancy service offering specialist advice to woodland owners.

Joe is passionate about training the woodland workers of tomorrow, advising woodland owners on sustainable management, and promoting the benefits of coppicing and coppice restoration, as well as the home grown products it offers. He set up the Wyedean Coppice Group to bring together woodland workers in the region.

 

Caroline Weaver

Project Manager

Caroline co-ordinates activities behind the scenes, keeping tihngs on track, planning activities and seeking new opportunities. She holds an MSc in Forestry and comes from a background working in research, writing and editing related to environment and environmental policy. She is passionate about woodland management for environmental goals and loves seeing how coppicing leads to richer woodland habitats.

 

Louis Higgins

Forester & Team Leader

Louis completed a year-long apprenticeship with Joseph Weaver and is currently studying Level 2 Arboriculture. Louis has always been driven to work outside and with nature. As well as his work for Wye Coppice, Louis has undertaken tree planting and volunteered with a number of woodland charities. Louis is a committed team leader, working with Wye Coppice to sustainably manage local woodlands. 

Simon Jones

Forester & Team Leader

Simon joins Wye Coppice in the cutting season as a team leader on our coppice and coppice restoration sites. He also runs a landscaping and gardening business (The Earthcare Gardener) and is passionate about plants and botany. A former biology teacher, he holds a PhD in Immunology.

Joe Cusworth

Coppice Worker & Environmental Advisor

Having completed an MSc in Environmental Management, Joe gained experience in private sector consultancy work before following his passion for working on practical projects that benefit biodiversity and improve ecosystems. He trained in woodland management with Joe Weaver and is currently studying a Level 4 in Arboriculture. He is also a Woodland Officer for the Forest of Avon Trust. 

Will Slater

Coppice Worker

After completing his traineeship, Will joined Wye Coppice as a coppice worker and woodland manager in 2024. A career changer, he's shown real passion for woodland work and is growing his skills in arboriculture and woodland management all the time. When he's not in the woods, you will probably find him climbing a rockface somewhere!

Jack Firmin

Coppice Worker

After completing his traineeship, Jack also joined Wye Coppice as a coppice worker and woodland manager in 2024. A college leaver when he joined us, Jack has honed his chainsaw skills and is a budding woodland manager. When he's not in the woods, you can find him playing rugby.

Ed Wooldridge

Coppice Worker

Ed has several years' experience in tree surgery - a career that stems from his love for the outdoors and woodlands. He holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Manchester and an MSc in Climate Change and Policy from the University of Bristol. 

Ed is passionate about raising awareness of sustainable woodland management and learning as much as possible along the way.

Matt Jones

Coppice Worker & Hedgelayer

Roxanne Courtney

Woodland Management Trainee

Roxanne joined the team in September 2024 after successfully completing her chainsaw course and assessment as part of the Wye Valley National Landscape / Wye Coppice Traineeship Programme.

Nick Rose

Woodland Management Trainee

Nick joined the team in September 2024 after successfully completing his chainsaw course and assessment as part of the Wye Valley National Landscape / Wye Coppice Traineeship Programme.

Graham Morgan

 Ecologist

Graham is an ecologist, environmental planner and forestry worker, and runs SLIM Woodlands CIC. He is a Chartered Environmental Scientist and Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. He has an active interest in the archaeology of coppice and the carbon balance of coppiced woodlands, and passionately promotes the active management  of woodlands.
